Numi Alchemist Shares the Secrets
of his Recipes

Numi's blends are hand-crafted by founder Ahmed Rahim, who uses his expertise gained while running teahouses in Europe. When Ahmed is working on a new blend, he begins by tasting each ingredient on its own, then follows a step by step process to combine ingredients until the perfect balance is attained. The difference between using an oil or flavoring and using the real ingredient is immediately apparent to the well-trained palette. So as a taste-artist, Ahmed feels it is always important to use real ingredients that are organic. Creating the final blend takes a lot of experimenting - infusing whole or crushed herbs, spices and freeze dried fruits to create the ideal flavor without using a sprayed on taste. He says, “let's allow the teas, herbs, fruits and spices to speak for themselves; A gift from nature with a little help from us.” In addition to his skills as a master-blender, Ahmed also spent years as a professional photographer and film maker.

Creativitea behind the box

Each box of Numi tea is graced with an image painted by founder Reem Rahim, who studied fine art in Italy and Africa. Using inspiration from Ahmed's photography, Reem hand paints these detailed images onto thin sheets of tin that are smaller than the average postcard. Last year Numi launched 5 new flavors and Reem painted 5 new images from Ahmed's most recent travels to China and India. For each new flavor she also takes the time to create a tea stain that is unique to that blend, which she then uses as the background for the box. Reem went through years of schooling to be a biomedical engineer before a near-fatal car accident jolted her out of her daily routine and inspired her to reexamine the direction of her life. This led her to focus more on her artistic expression and eventually to the founding of Numi.

Numi is opening its first-ever Tea House!

As Numi has flourished over the past 8 years, the key to our success has been the people and the vision of the Brand. Each person on the Numi Tea'm has brought so much energy, professionalism and passion to the brand; spreading the Numi mission to all we touch. Combining these aspects with the quality and dedication to organics, fair trade and sustainable practices, Numi has grown worldwide. Each teabag has become a bridge to a larger cause and has allowed the people at Numi to voice stronger changes in the world, through the packaging, through our press and media, through music, through our interactions with the trade, through art, through the environment, through our larger communitea's worldwide and now more recently through our first ever Tea House which is opening on October 12 th in our own backyard of Oakland, CA. This will now give us a launching pad in which to share all of our talents, visions and positive message to the consumers and trade and spread the Numi culture face to face.
